Bolton: Where deep pockets built a town

Updated: Aug 7

Tourney |July 25-July 27 2026|

The Grove Martins packed their stuff and headed off to their final tourney of the season… Bolton.

Now, before we unpack the box scores, let’s dive headfirst into Bolton’s shady ancestry. Turns out the town was named after a man named George Bolton.

Georgie started in England, detoured to Jamaica, and dipped his toes into the indigo plantation business, which is historical code for “not great choices.” Then one morning, he woke up, stared into the mirror, and said:

“You know what? Enough slavery. I need some cold weather and fewer questions.”

So he packed his Pockets full of gold, sailed to Canada, and bought land from a man named James Chewett, who — plot twist got the land via the classic method: just being nearby and putting his flag in the ground.

Moral of the story?

Have pants with pockets and an exit plan.

Back to Bat & Gloves

The opener was against Stayner, which we’re assuming is either a baseball team or a limited-edition detergent.

MG’s offense showed signs of life:

  • Fionn cracked 2 hits

  • Paul racked up 3 hits

  • Justin & Marcus pitched, combining for 4 ER. Not bad.

But then... Mr. Errorski arrived full of defensive “surprises,” he handed out six unwrapped gifts. All of them labeled:

“Runs for Stayner. Do not return.”

Final Score: 10–4, Stayner.

Game 2 – vs. Markham Mariners

Tighter game. Nail-biter. Probably would’ve won if defense wasn’t allergic to the baseball.

  • Des & Lorenzo each had 2 hits.

  • Fionn & Paul allowed just 3 earned runs combined.

Unfortunately, the glove department got lost in the Saturday morning Bolton traffic.

Walk-off loss, 5–4.

Team mood: “This is fine,” while sitting in a fire.

Game 3 – vs. Mississauga Tigers

This one was different. Mostly because we didn’t technically lose. Progress!

  • MG Sox: 9 hits.

  • Tigers: 3 hits.

  • Score: 3–3.

Multi-hit heroes:

  • Fionn, Marcus, and G.

Pitching star: Gianluca, who threw all 7 innings with 8 strikeouts 0 Earned Runs and possibly left his jock on the mound.

So what happened?

It was like watching a heist movie where the robbers pull off the plan flawlessly… and then lock themselves inside the vault.

So thank you, Bolton.

You’ve given us a weekend where we learned that 427 ends at Major Mac.
