A man called Orange

'Hey, let’s take a drive from Etobicoke to Orangeville on a Thursday afternoon for a quick two-hour baseball game..' said no one ever with a spring in their step.

Located 40 km further north of Buffy’s, i.e., Brampton, this beautiful town has a rich history.

Astonishingly, it was not named after oranges but after a man with the first name Orange.

Even more remarkable, someone named their son after a fruit.

What if Orange’s parents liked nuts instead?

Would Nutville be our destination after being stuck in traffic?

Facing the white-wearing Orangeville Bengals, who are a 4th seed in the TBA standings with a 7-2-2 record, the grey-wearing White Sox took on stiff competition.

The kitties took an early 3-1 lead and loaded the bases with 1 out at the bottom of the 1st.

It looked grim for the travel-weary Sockies. But baseball is about moments.

The next batter struck out, and a sharp throw from catcher Gianluca threw out the runner at 3rd. Double play, inning, and disaster over.

The grey Whites took over the game after the 1st.

With outstanding defensive catches in the outfield by Jake, Jeremy, Gianluca, and batting contributions from the entire lineup, especially Paul, Desmond, and Finn, there was no looking back.

The visitors scored 3 in the 2nd and another 6 in the 5th. Final score: 11-4.

Stars of the Game

Offense:

  • Paul: 3 hits, 4 RBIs

  • Finn: 2 hits, 2 RBIs

  • Desmond: 2 hits, 1 RBI

Defense:

  • Jake, Gianluca, Jeremy, Paul: Gold Glove candidates

Pitchers:

  • Gavin, Fionn: 3 innings combined, no earned runs, 3 K’s. Shutdown city.

Thank you, Orangeville, for hosting us.

The city looks great, though maybe the welcome city sign could use a little, tiny, small refresher.
