| vs Toronto Playgrounds | 23.06.24 | 15-0 Win |
After three rain-outs, these two historic neighbourhood teams finally squared off:
the hosting Centennials vs. the Torontonians of the Christie Pits Playground.
This rivalry goes back centuries.
During one game in 1921, 57 balls were lost in the snow [rumour has it they are still out there].
In another game in 1874, the visiting team never made it back home due to all their horses coming down with a stomach flu. [not easy on the eyes or nose]
The entire lineup stayed at Hirons' dairy farm [the land where the current Centennial Park is located], worked the fields, and started new families there.
Today, the players and spectators had to face rain, heavy wind, and extreme heat.
But this was not a contest.
The Martin dairy farmers milked the Torontonians for all their pride.
It was payback for all the lost balls.
Dante and Fionn, as pitchers, shut out the men from the Pits.
Meanwhile, the entire Grovers lineup got on base either by hit or walk. [lots of walks 15 in all]
Noteworthy hitting came from Jake, Dante, and Gavin, who each hit doubles.
Stars of the Game
Dante: Starting pitcher gave up 2 hits, 0 ER, 8 K’s over 3.1 innings.
Fionn: Relief pitcher, 0’s across, with 4 K’s over 1.2 innings.
Jake: 2 hits [one being a double], 5 RBIs.
Dante & Paul: Trying to almost and practically assembling the batting netting.
Next up, Round 2.Â
