The Sox Travel East and Things Go South

| vs East York Bulldogs  | 31.05.25 | Loss 2-9 |Regular Season

It was far. Trafficky. Nippy. Windy.

Like someone put February in a blender and poured it over a breezy March.

The journey to the mystical land of East York began with good intentions.

Originally part of York Township, the Easteners famously broke off in 1924 because the folks from Western York didn’t return their casserole dishes and refused to invite them to axe-throwing socials.

Their revenge? A self-made kingdom of East York.

First order of business: no booze in any social establishments. (all true)

Restaurants and bars served “water on the rocks.”

That’s right — full-on prohibition until the 1970s.

So anyone from East York who wanted to party simply crossed the street to Danforth, made a mess, and came back home like nothing happened.

What better place to play baseball than a land forged from spite and grudge.

And yet — the Sox With Holes came into the game strong and sober.

With Fionn on the mound, it was a gusty pitcher’s duel.

Through three innings: tied at zero.

Then came the 4th. The gloves got cold. The brains got colder. Two infield errors. Four runs.

Even though the hits were close — 10-7 for the Dogs — the Martins left their runners frozen to the icy bases.

Tough, cold, sober loss.

Did I mention it was hiemal, hibernal and brumal?
